I just upgraded my macbook pro to snow leopard. The process was extremely painless, more like put the dvd in, click a few buttons and then voila, Mac OSX 10.6
I haven’t gone through all the changes and improvements, but the previous settings that I have managed to check are still in place. I did encounter one minor problem. When i restarted my lighttpd, it crashed. After checking what’s wrong, I found out that my /var/log directory was reset to default so I have to recreate the directories again of my logs. After that, lighttpd was started smoothly.
I will still be spending a couple of days double checking all my apps and settings before I can say everything is working well. I noticed something though, when I checked the kernel, it is still running on 32-bit. Snow Leopard is supposed to be 64-bit. I immediately asked Google for some answers and found out that the 64-bit kernel is not booted by default. During bootup, you will have to press 6 and 4 keys to instruct the loader to boot the 64-bt kernel and extensions. Apple has rewritten all the core applications to take advantage of 64-bit technology.
All in all, everything seems to be fine so far. Although I may have to spend a few more cashfor 1Password because the current version is not working for Safari 64-bit. They have a beta though for it
We found out about this exploit in Windows Vista and Windows 7. All that is needed is the IP of the machine running vista or windows 7 and we can run a script that will force the machine to crash and show the BSOD (blue screen of death). We tried it and it works. I booted my mac on vista, gave my IP address to my friend, he run the script and my vista instantly crashed.
What an exploit
